About the Lustgarten Foundation
Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research is a research facility for the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of this critical type of cancer. It is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1999. The foundation is named after Marc Lustgarten, a Cablevision executive who died at the young age of 52 as a result of pancreatic cancer.
The charitable gift assists with the threefold purpose of the organization:
- Increase funding of research for biological mechanisms
- Facilitate communication among members of the scientific community
- Heighten public awareness of pancreatic cancer
The organization typically solicits support by holding various runs / walks and other events at a regional level. Much of the support, however, comes in the form of donations, just as The Odierno Law Firm, P.C. gave toward the cause. In 2012, the Lustgarten Foundation had raised an amount in excess of $16.1 million, which has further increased in the past three years.
